Mamardashvili to attend 2024 Ballon d'Or gala
The Valencia CF goalkeeper is nominated for the Yashin Trophy, an award given to the best goalkeeper in the world
Giorgi Mamardashvili will travel to the 2024 Ballon d'Or gala on Monday, October 28th, at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
The Valencia CF goalkeeper is on the list of nominees for the Yashin Trophy, an award given to the best goalkeeper in the world, for his great performances in the 2023/24 season.
Mamardashvili is on this shortlist along with Diogo Costa (FC Porto), Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint-Germain), Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund), Andriy Lunin (Real Madrid CF), Mike Maignan (AC Milan), Emiliano Martínez (Aston Villa FC), Unai Simón (Athletic Club), Yann Sommer (FC Internazionale Milano) and Ronwen Williams (Sundowns).
In his homeland, he was chosen by the newspaper Sarbieli as the best Georgian player of the 2023/24 campaign -becoming the first goalkeeper in history to win this award for the second time.
In LALIGA EA Sports, he became the Valencia CF goalkeeper with the most consecutive starts in the top flight (71) and broke his own record for most clean sheets (13) in a single season in the domestic competition. He was also the top goalkeeper, along with Unai Simón, for penalties saved (3), and nominated for best Under-23s Player of the Month for March.
At international level, he shone with Georgia at the European Championship, winning Man of the Match in their game against the Czech Republic and achieving the second highest number of saves in a group stage match in the competition.
